What kind of fins should I get for my first time snorkeling?
It depends on how much you are willing to spend on a pair of fins, you can pick up cheap pairs or you can go the whole hog and get a kick arse pair.
Full foot fins are the norm when snorkeling they are normally lighter than what a open heel fin would be which is what most scuba divers use these days as they hold more power and are longer than a snorkeling fin.
A few of your options are which are pretty good fins:
TUSA X-pert Zoom Split fins (they are full foot)
US Divers Blast II Snorkeling fins (they are open heel)
Aeris Velocity Full-Foot Snorkeling Fins.
Each has their own pros and cons like with any fin, the main thing is to make sure that they feel comfortable, you do not need serious power with snorkeling fins as with diving as you do not have as much weight to carry around with you.
If you are unsure go into a local dive shop and talk to them about it.
Will you be ok in a rip current if you have fins and a snorkel.?

Try to get long ones, so that you can go faster. Make sure to get ones that fit well, or else they will be very uncomfortable and hard to use.
