Best place to snorkel off the beach in Caribbean?
I am planning a trip to the Caribbean in April. Of Aruba, Turks and Caicos, Cayman, or other place, which is the best place that offers Snorkeling WITHOUT joining a tour? I want to be able to just step to the beach and get in the water and snorkel my heart out…..any suggestions?? Thanks!
Grace Bay Beach on Providenciales in Turks and Caicos. Stay at Coral Gardens. There is a very healthy reef right in front of the hotel.

La Mona, Puerto Rico (a tiny isolated island in the west of PR) you can snorkle there and camp also there are caves.
or
Culebra, Puerto Rico, another island east of PR close to the US Virgin Is.
in culebra there are gorgeous 'private' beaches where you can go scuba diving or snorkling.
check out pics on google earth

Grand Cayman Islands, at Harbour Heights: http://www.harbourheightscayman.com/cayman-island-activities/coral-reef-diving/default.html
The resort is located right on the Seven Mile Beach and offers many different activities, including snorkeling.

Most of the diving and snorkeling locations around Curacao are just off the beaches, so a boat is not needed for many of these sites.

I agree with the earlier answer — Grand Cayman. The island is almost completely surrounded by a reef so the water close to shore is generally calm and ideal for snorkeling right from the beach. We like it so much we created a website to sing its praises, see below.
Check with the resorts to confirm which have good snorkeling off their beach, many (if not most) do.

Cane Bay, St. Croix. No nearby accomodations however. Take taxi to beach. Restaurant/Bar on beach. Do not bring valuables.
