Will you be ok in a rip current if you have fins and a snorkel.?
Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009I am an okay swimmer but I’ve gone snorkelling a few times and can stay in the water for hours with fins and a Snorkel. I have a strong kick with fins. I’ve only heard about rip currents on TV but should I be concerned even if I’m wearing fins and a snorkel or will I be alright?
Like many things, it depends.
It depends on how strong the rip current is. It depends if you are right in the middle of it where it is the strongest, or on the edges where it is a bit weaker.
As others have stated, it is better just to swim parallel to shore until you are out of the rip current, then swim in to shore.
Summer day in April 7, 2007 Saturday at Divers Sunctuary in Batanggas…
Following a school of blue tangs. Sorry I lost my camera for a few seconds.
Saw a lobster among other things on this outing at Fisherman’s Cove in Laguna Beach
Right at the end of the reef at Fins and Flipers. A beautiful place to be!
