Friday, October 30th, 2009Navigator of the Seas: points to person who answers ALL questions?
Thursday, October 29th, 2009I am going on a cruise to cozumel and belize city in 2 weeks and its through the navigator of the seas (rccl) i have been on a cruise before, but on NCL’s Jewel, which is freestyling, and i was wondering:
1)what the difference is between the formal/set dinners and freestyling.. also
2) how is "teen scene"? do many come in march, if so do they choose to go to the teen club?
3) ports of call and excursions booked-dolphin greeting (CZL), Snorkel (BEL)
4) Spa/pool area
5) ATTIRE< ATTIRE<ATTIRE: does a 17 yearold wear sundresses the whole time (for dinners) and then the cocktail dress for formal night??
i will give 10 points to the person who can best answer ALL 5 of my questions
1. Free style eating is any restaurant at any time. You just have to make reservations. This style is only found on NCL. Royal Carribean has assigned dining. You will dine at the same time each night with the same people. However if you do not want to dine in the dining room there is always a buffett, and the food on Royal Caribbean is wonderful even at the buffett. The buffett has more than 1 type of food. There is asian, italian, mexican etc.
2. I think March is school break, if that is the case there will be plenty of teens there. yes there is a teens club it is optional. There is a teen lounge area for dancing and mingling.
3. Belize is great for snorkling, dolphin greeting is also good. Cozumel is also good for snorkling. I don’t know what other ports you are calling upon.
4.Large pool area with two or four spas. Buffett is only steps away so you can take your lunch there.
5. You can wear any casual attire for dinner but no jeans, shorts, sandles or tank tops for guys. Formal night you can wear a really nice dress. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a cocktail dress. Just look really nice!
You will have a great time on this ship. You will even enjoy the shows. Entertainment is geared for all ages.
Have fun!
Where is the best place to snorkel in late December?
Thursday, October 29th, 2009I’m planning a trip to Thailand and will be arriving on the 19th or 20th of December. Where are the best places to go snorkeling?
Depends on where you’re primarily going to be staying, of course.
Phuket has pretty easy access to the following (about 1-2.5 hours or so by boat):
Koh Phi Phi (recommended)
Koh Similan
Koh Surin
You will find a number of day trips to other islands around Phuket as well (Koh Racha, etc). While not as spectacular as Phi Phi, these islands are ok if you don’t want to take a long trip to see the best snorkeling areas.
Koh Samui:
A lot of people go to Koh Tao
Krabi:
Koh Phi Phi
Koh Lanta
The good news is that you’re arriving at a great time of year to go Snorkeling because rainy season will be over.
Some snorkeling pics from Thailand can be found in my blog link below…
How to Use A Snorkel Underwater?
Monday, October 26th, 2009I want to know how to use a snorkel under water. I can use it close to the top but when i go deep I can’t breath at all. Is there any way please help.
Scuba diving? lol I don’t know but if you’re planning on going really deep the you should scuba dive
To keep the snorkel upright while you are swimming face down on the surface, the snorkel strap will need to be adjusted properly on the mask strap. Since the Snorkeler cannot see the snorkel while it’s in use, it may be helpful to have someone watch you and help you find the proper adjustment. For me, it’s with the strap well forward, almost against the mask. Now you can swim along the surface, breathing through the snorkel and observing the world below. When you see something interesting you can hold your breath and dive down to have a closer look. In order to stretch your time below, it is important to be relaxed and not expending a lot of energy. It also helps to be able to get down quickly. To start down, rotate your body so that you can put your head straight down and stick your legs straight up and out of the water. Then let gravity do its thing and you should be on your way down without moving a muscle. When your downward speed has deteriorated you can begin kicking to continue. For the return to the surface, tilt your head back and watch where you are going. You wouldn’t want to bang your head on the bottom of a boat. You should reserve enough air in your lungs so that after you break the surface–with your head still back so that the open end of the snorkel will be pointing down–you can send a quick burst of air through snorkel to help expel any remaining water. And you are ready to continue swimming on the surface, face down, breathing through the snorkel. Scuba divers are taught to ascend with one hand stretched upward to prevent striking an object with one’s head and also to be more visible to boat traffic when surfacing. It’s not a bad idea for snorkelers to do the same. You can go here…
