Most important Off-Roading modifications for Jeep Wrangler?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I own a 97 TJ Wrangler Sahara Edition. I have all of these things already added from the original: 3.5" Rubicon Short arm suspension, 1.5" body lift kit, a Warn Rock Crawler front bumper, rear bumper and tire carrier, a couple extra lights, 35" mickey thompson MTZs on MT classic wheels.

I need to know what to do next. I know i need to get a winch and add to the front bumper, but should i just get the warn winch mount plate and grill guard or should I get a whole new bumper. If so what bumper do you recommend. Im some what hesitant to get a new bumper because my front and back currently match.

Is a warn winch really worth getting over another decent brand? I only wheel every other weekend (at most) so i don’t use it all the time.

Im also thinking about larger fender flares because i have wide tires so i get a lot of mud and water and rocks kicked up. What do you think about this?

Is there anything else that is important or nice to get? For example a dual battery set up, exhaust system, lockers, Snorkel, seat covers, roof rack, steering stabilizers?? and so on for all you educated folk.

Please keep in mind I do drive this at least 15 miles a day so im not going to get more of a lift or larger tires. And for ideas sakes money is not an issue but if you have any money saving tips let me know. Thanks so much!

Practice is the best Component to add.
If you are going to be in a situation where you need a winch, the last thing on your mind should be whether or not your bumpers match.Cuz they will probably look like crap at that point.
That being said, for the cosmetic conscious who expect to commute in the vehicle they destroy on weekends, they make gas-powered winched that attach to the tree with a rope or sling, and pull you out with a cable. These don’t have to be mounted anywhere, or displayed for thieves on your bumper.
The other thing you should look into is a Detroit Locker. Best investment. I believe you will be able to do 95% of your off-roading without engaging 4wd, if you have a Detroit Locker. Get the electric one, so you can go back to regular Differential on the street or tight trails.

Dodge Ram R/T
The Dodge Ram R/T starts off with a 2009 Ram Sport with a 380 horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, a 4.10 gear and a high stall converter, which rockets the truck to impressive times. With this blank canvas, Mopar Underground created a Dodge Challenger inspired version of the Dodge Ram. On the performance side is a Mopar cold-air intake kit to keep the engine breathing and a Mopar dual exhaust system with a performance rumble. The exterior is painted classic B5 Blue, with a Mopar dual-Snorkel aluminum hood and carbon-fiber accent stripes. A dropped chassis is possible with a concept Mopar air suspension kit. The look is made more evident by the body-kit which consists of sill and box pieces, finished up with a chin spoiler. For wheels, concept Mopar 22-inch Alcoas wrapped in 285/45R22s in front and 305/40R22s in the rear. A Mopar hard tonneau cover and a unique integrated spoiler are combined with the Mopar bed mat showing an ambient under-rail LED lighting system. The interior features Katzkin leather seats with body-color stitching to match the instrument panel and steering wheel. A set of Mopar pedals are installed, adding to the performance look and capability.

Can anyone find me some info on these rims please? I’ve tried everywhere. I’ve googled and sent to the Alcoa site but I can’t find anything and I really like these rims. (they’re the ones on the blue ram in case the picture doesn’t show up and you can’t find it on the website.)

It is a concept an idea someone has they do not exists.

I have a body glove snorkel mask. No nose purge. I always get water in the mask. It is made of silicone. Any t?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I have an aqua sphere swim mask - ( eye piece no nose piece) that seals very tightly around my eyes. I never have problems with getting water in my eyes.

Is it because Snorkel masks are made to cover the nose and it’s hard to create an airtight space?

Can be a number of reasons, most of them common to mask and/or user.

1, Fringe hair trapped in the mask. Make sure you sweep the hair back when fitting.

2, Mask too large for face. Get a smaller mask.

3, Mask wrong shape for face. Buy a new mask.

4, Mask strap too tight distorting the shape of the mask. Loosen strap

5, Faulty face seal. Replace/Repair

6, Faulty lens seal. Replace/Repair

7, Facial hair (sorry if you are female)

When purchasing a new mask, without using the head strap, place the mask against the face and gently push onto the face, take away your hand and the mask should stay in place, if it does not, it is wrong for you.

I have a problem with laughter lines, every time I laugh (which I do often, the mask floods :-)

Do i have to join a snorkel tour in cabos or can i take water-taxi out & snorkel with own gear i brought?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I never Snorkeled before. I read online i can take water-taxi at the Cabo San Lucas marina and ask to be taken to Lover’s Beach, near the arch, where you can snorkel, dive or watch the sea lions.

will the sea lion always be there haha.

Bring your gear and do it on your own. Weather is hot and water is nice.

Those sea lions know a good thing also, they are not going anywhere!

We have a sea lion colony on Los Islotes, and islet North of La Paz as well, a super snorkeling site but you need a boat to get there.

Canary Islands - A Great Vacation Paradise For Beach Bums!

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Having a vacation with the family is a great thing to do. I will enjoy a holiday cruise anytime of the year. I especially like great beaches with the blue skies. Of course, it helps, when the people are friendly too.

When I travel for leisure, the Canary Islands off Spain is never far from my mind. You can get there by cruise. If you choose to do so, remember to go to a cruise-only travel agent or an online agency that specializes in cruise vacations. They probably can give you better cruise holiday deals.

You can also get there by air. All the islands have airports. Most international flights and those from mainland Spain goes to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote. You can also fly to the Canaries from most European cities. If you are flying from North America, flights usually go to Madrid, where you can get a connecting flight.

An unknown North African aboriginal group originally inhabited the Canary Islands. Later, in the 15th century, a Frenchman Bethencourt discovered the islands. Some popular Canary Islands destinations to explore are: Fuerteventura, Gomera, Grand Canary, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

If you want an all-out summer holiday with sand, beaches, and babes, the Canary Islands is a good choice for travel. There are numerous activities here. The mini golf course will give you hours of fun. There are also many tracks for biking and hiking.

One of my favorites is the Teide National Park. It is a marvel of nature with its stunning volcanic landscape. It is also home to Spain’s highest mountain, the dormant volcano Teide. There are numerous walking trails and a cable car to the top of the volcano. Truly awesome!

You can’t talk about the Canary Islands without talking about the Bahia de Pozo Izquierdo which is the best beach on Gran Canaria. It is great for windsurfing, deep sea fishing and sailing. When you Snorkel or scuba dive, you will probably see grouper, barracuda, turtles, rays, tropical fishes and the occasional shark.

If you are at Gran Canaria, a hotel to stay is “ClubHotel Riu Vistamar”. It is well maintained, and the service is good. Although the pool area can be crowded, the food more than makes up for it. You get pancakes, cereals, toast and even champagne for breakfast! On certain days, you’ll even get smoked salmon. Quite frankly, I don’t mind having it everyday! Remember to attend the 6:30pm dinner to enjoy the night entertainment too.

The Canary Islands has a population of 1.84m people, most of whom are Roman catholic. The weather is generally warm and sunny all year round. If you hate winter, this is the best place to be a lazy beach bum, and have nice and friendly people around you!

How much does it cost to snorkel, jet-ski, para-sail in Cabo San Lucas?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’m going on a company sponsored-cruise to Cabo and have no idea how much anythng costs once we get on shore!

Thanks in advance!

(intern with not much money)

Hola. One of the best websites for cost of activities is www.loscabosguide.com. It is somewhat expensive to rent a jet ski $60 per hour - with deposit - - and some companies require a guide to go with you

To Snorkel, it is very cheap. $20-25 to rent equipment and you can leave your ID as collateral. Paddle kayaks and canoes, at $10 to $15 per hour, can be paddled from Médano to Land’s End and Lover’s beach. Two-hour tours, with a guide, are $25 per person.

If the wind’s up, and you are brave, rent a windsurfer for $15 an hour, or if you prefer not to get quite that wet, hire a Hobie Cat for $25 to $30. Salt water skiing? Blast around the bay and show off both your slalom and your tan. Available by the half or full hour, from $40. Parasailing are from $30 for 10 minutes on a 600-foot line. There are several companies in Cabo San Lucas to choose from, as well as one in San José del Cabo located along Palmilla or Costa Azul beaches. It’s a Los Cabos vacation memory that will last a lifetime.

Will you be ok in a rip current if you have fins and a snorkel.?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I am an okay swimmer but I’ve gone snorkelling a few times and can stay in the water for hours with fins and a Snorkel. I have a strong kick with fins. I’ve only heard about rip currents on TV but should I be concerned even if I’m wearing fins and a snorkel or will I be alright?

Like many things, it depends.

It depends on how strong the rip current is. It depends if you are right in the middle of it where it is the strongest, or on the edges where it is a bit weaker.

As others have stated, it is better just to swim parallel to shore until you are out of the rip current, then swim in to shore.
